1. Verify that the FROM address is legitimate

Click (or tap, if you are using a mobile device) on the sender’s name to see the complete address.  Also, scrutinize the domain name to ensure the spelling is correct.

 

2. Hover over links and verify that they are legitimate

Hover (do not left click) your mouse cursor over the links in the email to verify that the destination address is legitimate.

 

3. Review the message for spelling and grammatical errors

An email that is poorly written is usually a sign of a scam.  In general, business emails are professionally written which includes proper formatting and use of punctuations.
